Life doesn’t come with a manual. As we grow older and experience different situations, we become wiser and make better choices. Rearview Mirror Reflections Podcast is a conversation between two Kenyan women sharing their perspectives on life and what they are learning along the way. The conversations are a reminder that life and our perspectives keep evolving.
When we talk of spirituality, a lot of things come to mind, except feeding the soul. Just like the physical and mental, the soul equally needs nourishment to help us stay in touch with our higher self. Damaris Agweyu, in the fourth Rearview Mirror Reflections episode on spirituality, asserts: "What makes spirituality an integral part of who we are as humans is that it's our core. Failing to feed the spiritual part of you, is like failing to nourish your body. We focus a lot on feeding our physical and mental but ignore the spiritual."
With this new revelation, I thought it fit to talk about ways you can nourish your soul. And so here are simple ordinary practices you can incorporate right away in your daily life to inject new energy into your spirit.
Be in nature
Nature is refreshing. It makes you feel peaceful and relaxed. Because nature is a high vibration environment, it nourishes the soul, helping you heal. Exploring nature helps you disconnect from daily life stressors. It clears your mind and rejuvenates your spirit.
It's a good practice to spend a few minutes a day outside, either just basking in the sun or simply exploring your neighbourhood. When you have time, a hike will truly energise your soul, keeping it healthy.
Journal
When you feel stressed, hopeless, fearful, or unsure, try journaling and see how this simple process magically lifts your spirit. You'll feel relieved almost immediately.
Journaling gives you new insights that you would otherwise not think of. It's one of the avenues that help you release negative energy, sift through thoughts, and process your emotions. Through journaling, you express the deepest concerns that you could not express verbally. This is liberating to the soul. It shakes off negative vibrations that hold you back from connecting to your higher self.
Meditate
Regular meditation is like medicine to the soul. It helps you align with your soul's desire. Meditation helps free your mind by slowing down cognitive function. You can truly connect to who you are and what you want.
Set aside as little as ten minutes to meditate daily and find out just how amazing it can help you stay grounded. You'll accomplish more. You'll be able to handle stressful situations better, and even have a more fulfilling day.
Think positive
Another food you should constantly feed your soul is positive thoughts. This starts with your perception of the world and those around you. A negative view of your surroundings begets negative thoughts, which ultimately poisons your soul.
When you change your perception, you'll notice a shift in your thoughts. Positive thoughts make you happier and more relaxed. You'll find it easier to cope with setbacks. Overall, you'll approach life with an "I can do it" mentality rather than a defeated mindset.

Practice silence
Silence is a powerful, healthy soul practice. With the noise in the world compounded with your own noise, it becomes difficult to listen and be in touch with yourself. Silence is the pathway to realising your unconscious desire. It conjures emotions within and helps you get in touch with parts you never knew existed.
